Courtney is the paralegal assigned to G. Aaron Suazo. She I also the lead paralegal for the firm and the firm business manager. Courtney has a BA in psychology with a minor in Criminology from Metropolitan State College.
Courtney has a long history of working in the legal field. She learned the ins-and-outs of domestic relations law early in her legal career by working in several Colorado Courts. She began her legal career working in the Arapahoe County Court as a part-time Jury Commissioner. She was quickly moved to a full-time position in the Clerk’s Office and worked on both criminal and civil matters. Courtney wore many hats while working in the Arapahoe County Court clerk’s office. She maintained the duties of the jury commissioner but also held the positions of assistant division clerk and assistant collections investigator.
After three and a half years in Arapahoe County, Courtney was offered a position in the Jefferson County court as the Self-Help Coordinator. As the Self-Help Coordinator, Courtney assisted individuals who were representing themselves in preparing pleadings to be filed in all case types. At the same time, she was also responsible for processing data entry for five courtrooms/divisions that were handling domestic relations cases.
A few years later Courtney was offered another promotion and she became a Domestic Division Clerk in the Arapahoe District Court. As a Domestic Division Clerk, Courtney was responsible for the all odd numbered cases, including Dissolution of Marriage, Allocation of Parental Responsibility, Modification, Grandparent Rights, and Invalidity of Marriage. Courtney also dealt directly with the Child Support Enforcement Unit and handled all of their cases in Arapahoe and Douglas county.
Upon the departure of the Judicial Officer Courtney was working for she was offered a position with Douglas County Court as a Collections Investigator. Within a year she applied for the E-file Specialist position and was offered the job the same day. Courtney was in charge of monitoring the e-file clerks and processing all electronic filings, performed the duties of a Probate Registrar, and organized the new Self-Help Center. Courtney also sat on numerous boards with he Judicial System to help develop new procedures and programs.
While working in the Self-Help Center a former colleague of Courtney’s approached her about a job opening at a large and successful domestic relations firm in Arapahoe County. Although Courtney enjoyed and was excelling at Douglas county, Courtney decided to apply for the position. She was hired on the spot and began working for the firm a few weeks later. Courtney remained with that firm for the next ten years. While working for that domestic relations firm, Courtney started working with G. Aaron Suazo, was promoted to Lead Paralegal where she supervised all of the other paralegals in the firm. Additionally, she was promoted and took on all of the responsibilities as the Office Manager, in addition to her paralegal duties, where she was responsible for the business aspects of the entire firm.
